About 123D files

The .123D file is a 3D model format originally created by Autodesk 123D Design, a discontinued consumer-level 3D modeling application aimed at hobbyists and the 3D printing community. The biggest disadvantage of this file is that Autodesk killed the software suite in 2017. The format is heavily proprietary, closed, and strictly tied to obsolete technology. It cannot be opened by modern web browsers or standard 3D viewers. Standard online converters routinely fail to process it because extracting the raw CAD data requires the original, proprietary Autodesk geometry engine. The most practical targets for conversion are STL for 3D printing, or STEP and OBJ for further editing in modern software. However, any parametric data or edit history is permanently lost when exporting to mesh formats. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert today. Emphasize that often only the original software or legacy tools like Meshmixer can properly read or export the data.

Convert.Guru analyzes your 123D file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The 123D Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our 123D converter.
