About ZS7 files

A .ZS7 file is a saved state file created by the ZSNES Super Nintendo (SNES) emulator. It stores the exact hardware state of the emulated console at a specific moment in time, specifically saved into quick-save slot number 7. Gamers use these files to freeze and resume gameplay at any point without relying on in-game save points. The primary software used to open and create these files is ZSNES. Users typically need to convert this file when migrating to modern SNES emulators like Snes9x or RetroArch. The main disadvantage of the .ZS7 format is its rigid, proprietary nature. It is a literal memory dump tied not just to the ZSNES emulator, but often to the exact software version. Files frequently break if you upgrade the emulator, and they are completely incompatible with other emulator ecosystems. Direct conversion to other save state formats is highly prone to corruption. The best conversion target is a standard SRM (Super Nintendo ROM RAM) file. However, this conversion requires loading the .ZS7 file in ZSNES and executing an in-game save to generate the SRM file. This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert externally because it lacks a standardized data structure. Only the original emulator engine possesses the correct memory mapping to interpret the CPU registers and RAM states stored inside. Standard online converters fail to process it. Our analysis tools can inspect the file headers and provide detailed metadata even when direct conversion is impossible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ZS7 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted ZST, CHT and SMC files.
