The .YML2 file extension is exclusively used for YML Scripts, an obscure developer format written in the YML programming language. Created by Volker Birk, YML is a playful acronym for 'Why a Markup Language?!' and is designed for data serialization and configuration. While it shares conceptual similarities with XML, it rejects standard markup tags in favor of a proprietary bracket-based syntax to structure objects.
Mainstream text editors can display the raw code, but executing or validating these files natively requires the original yml2c compiler.
Because this format is highly niche and largely unsupported by modern IDEs, users face significant challenges when trying to integrate .YML2 files into contemporary development workflows.
