Convert XDNA to another file type
To convert XDNA DNA sequences to another format, you need SnapGene or other Data software.
Convert a file to XDNA
To convert other file formats to the "Bioinformatics Data File" file type, you need software like SnapGene or a similar tool.
About XDNA files
The .XDNA file extension primarily represents a DNA sequence and map file created by SnapGene. It contains nucleotide sequences, feature annotations, primers, and translation data used by molecular biologists for cloning and genetic engineering. The main disadvantage of the .XDNA format is its proprietary nature. It requires specialized and often expensive bioinformatics software to open and edit. You cannot simply view these files in standard web browsers or text editors, creating massive friction when sharing genetic constructs with colleagues who lack a software license. Users frequently need to convert .XDNA files to universally accepted open formats like .FASTA (for raw sequence data) or .GBK (GenBank format for sequences with annotations). Converting to .FASTA will strip away visual map data and feature annotations, leaving only the raw DNA string. Because .XDNA is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often only the original software can properly read or export the complex biological data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your XDNA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert XDNA file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use SnapGene or similar software from the "DNA Sequence Annotation Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to XDNA, try SnapGene or another comparable tool in the "DNA Sequence Annotation Storage" category.
The XDNA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XDNA converter.
