Convert XBL to another file type

To convert XBL network models to another format, you need BayesiaLab or other Data software.

Convert a file to XBL

To convert other file formats to the "Statistical Model File" file type, you need software like BayesiaLab or a similar tool.

About XBL files

The .XBL file format is primarily used to store proprietary Bayesian network models created by BayesiaLab, a specialized statistical analysis software. Alternatively, it functions as an eXtensible Binding Language file, an obsolete XML-based format developed by Mozilla to define user interface behaviors in older versions of Firefox.

Both versions of the .XBL format come with significant real-world limitations. BayesiaLab models are heavily restricted by proprietary encoding. Opening, modifying, or running the probabilistic calculations requires an expensive software license, and the files cannot be viewed natively in standard web browsers or generic data tools. The Mozilla version of .XBL is a dead format; Mozilla completely removed XBL support in 2019, rendering these files obsolete for modern web development.

Users typically need to convert these files to escape proprietary lock-in or modernize legacy code. For Bayesian models, the best target formats are XML, JSON, or CSV to rescue node data, metadata, and probability tables. For legacy Mozilla files, developers must manually rewrite the logic into standard JS (JavaScript) or modern Web Components.

Because Bayesian network formats contain complex, closed-specification mathematical structures, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the statistical data. However, you can drag and drop your .XBL file onto convert.guru to identify the format, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded XML structure, basic viewing or data extraction may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your XBL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

FAQ

If you want to convert XBL file to HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP, JSPX, PY, RB or PL, you can use BayesiaLab or similar software from the "Bayesian Network Modeling Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to XBL, try BayesiaLab or another comparable tool in the "Bayesian Network Modeling Data" category.

The XBL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our XBL converter.
