About WLDX files

The .WLDX format represents an Extended World Map File designed for the Moondust Project (formerly PGE) and TheXTech game engines. Developed by Wohlstand, it stores the overhead world map for custom platformer games, primarily forks of Super Mario Bros. X. To view or edit these maps visually, you need the Moondust Editor. Users often face challenges with .WLDX files because they are highly proprietary. They use the text-based PGE-X data structure and rely on external paths to tiles, scenery, and level files. Because the map data consists of coordinates and settings rather than baked pixels, standard image viewers or conventional converters cannot process or display the visual map. Furthermore, using this modern format breaks compatibility with the legacy SMBX game engine. The best target format for legacy compatibility is the older WLD format. If you just need to inspect the internal data, converting it to TXT allows you to read the plain-text configuration. Standard online converters fail to process this niche format.
