A .WGV file is a proprietary video editing project created by Womble MPEG Video Wizard. Unlike standard video files (like MP4 or MOV), this file does not contain actual video data. Instead, it functions as a lightweight instruction list (an Edit Decision List) that references video clips, audio tracks, transitions, and DVD menu structures located elsewhere on your computer.

Because .WGV files are merely "maps" of your editing timeline, they are extremely small (often under 1MB) but completely useless if separated from the original source media. You cannot open them in media players like VLC or upload them to YouTube. Users frequently encounter frustration when trying to convert these files using standard online converters, which fail because the file lacks video streams. The only reliable way to "convert" a .WGV file is to open it in MPEG Video Wizard, creating a dependency on this specific, older software.
