About WFN files

A .WFN file is a legacy font format with two distinct primary uses. It most commonly stores proprietary vector or bitmap fonts for older versions of CorelDRAW and WordPerfect. Alternatively, it functions as a WGT Font File utilized by retro game engines like Adventure Game Studio (AGS) to render pixel-perfect bitmap typography. The main disadvantage of the .WFN format is its complete obsolescence in modern workflows. Modern operating systems such as Windows 11 and macOS do not support .WFN files natively. You cannot install them into your system font directory or use them in modern word processors. Furthermore, .WFN files are closed and proprietary. Opening them in a standard text editor reveals unreadable binary data. To use these typefaces today, you must convert them to standard, universally supported formats like .TTF (TrueType Font) or .OTF (OpenType Font). Standard online converters consistently fail with .WFN files because the proprietary encoding lacks public documentation and differs drastically from modern TrueType tables. This file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert outside of its original software ecosystem. Often, only the legacy Corel software or the original AGS font editor can properly read or export the glyph data. However, you can simply drag and drop your .WFN file into convert.guru to identify the precise format variant, inspect the binary headers, and view extracted metadata. If our analysis detects a supported embedded structure, viewing the font or converting it to a modern format may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your WFN file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The WFN Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our WFN converter.
