The .WFC file extension primarily serves as a Windows Connect Now configuration file. These files store wireless network credentials, SSIDs, and encryption methods using a standard XML structure. Natively managed by Microsoft Windows, they allow users to transfer network settings between devices easily. Alternatively, the .WFC extension is used as a World Foundry Campaign game map data file in classic Sierra Entertainment games like Caesar III and Zeus: Master of Olympus. A major disadvantage of the .WFC format is its highly specific use case. Network configurations are often generated quietly by the operating system, hiding the underlying mechanics and making manual network troubleshooting difficult. Game map files are completely proprietary closed formats that cannot be read outside of their respective ancient game engines. Users often need to convert or inspect these files to recover forgotten Wi-Fi passwords or to extract game logic.
