Extract text from WFB files
To convert your WFB file to another format, you need TIBCO WebFOCUS or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "BI Application File" file type, you need software like TIBCO WebFOCUS or a similar tool.
The .WFB extension describes two distinct, unrelated file formats, creating a common point of confusion for users.
Most modern .WFB files are application components generated by TIBCO WebFOCUS (formerly Information Builders). These are proprietary binary or configuration files used within the WebFOCUS Business Intelligence (BI) platform. They typically contain compiled report logic, dashboard components, or cached data structures used by the WebFOCUS server.
The Problem: Because these are server-side system files, they cannot be opened by standard text editors like Notepad++ or viewed in a web browser. They are "locked" to the WebFOCUS environment. Users often find these files in backup directories or export archives and mistakenly try to open them as documents.
The Solution: You cannot directly convert a raw .WFB component to PDF or XLSX. Instead, you must import the file back into the WebFOCUS App Studio. From there, you can run the report or dashboard and export the final results to PDF, Excel, or HTML formats.
A smaller percentage of files are WaveFront Sound Banks used by legacy 1990s sound cards like the Turtle Beach Tropez or Maui, which utilized the ICS WaveFront synthesizer chipset. These files store collections of instrument samples (MIDI banks).
The Solution: These files are obsolete and incompatible with modern audio software like Audacity. To retrieve the audio, you need specialized archival conversion tools like Awave Studio, which can read the .WFB bank and convert the internal samples to standard WAV or SF2 (SoundFont) formats for use in modern Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
