About VSTX files
A .VSTX file is a drawing template created by Microsoft Visio (versions 2013 and later), used as a blueprint for generating consistent diagrams, flowcharts, and org charts. Unlike standard VSDX drawing files, these templates contain predefined stencils, styles, and layout settings to ensure uniformity across organizational documents. However, the format relies heavily on the proprietary Microsoft Visio ecosystem. Because Visio is often sold as a standalone premium product rather than part of the standard Office suite, many users find themselves unable to open these files. Additionally, native support on macOS and mobile devices is minimal, often requiring expensive subscriptions or cloud logins just to view a static flowchart. To bypass these restrictions, it is best to convert .VSTX to PDF for universal viewing or archiving. For web use, SVG preserves vector scalability, while PNG offers a lightweight raster alternative. If you simply need to edit the diagram instance without modifying the template, converting to VSDX is the standard workflow.
Convert.Guru analyzes your VSTX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The VSTX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VSTX converter.
