About VPDB files

A .VPDB file is a project checklist database file created by Viper Project software or associated with Vertex42 checklists. These files are designed to organize tasks, track structured data, and map out process workflows in an ordered list format.

To open or edit these files natively, you typically need VIP Organizer (often associated with the Viper Project) or the specific Vertex42 checklist tool.

The main disadvantage of the .VPDB format is that it is a closed, proprietary database. Without the original software, users frequently encounter operating system errors when trying to open the file. The file cannot be read by standard text editors or spreadsheets, and keeping outdated desktop software installed just to view old checklists is a frustrating hassle.

To make the data accessible, we recommend converting .VPDB files to CSV, XLSX, or PDF. Converting to a standard spreadsheet format like XLSX allows you to easily share tasks with colleagues, though some visual workflow diagrams or proprietary metadata may be lost in the process.

This format is notoriously difficult to open or convert because it is a binary database rather than a standard text document. Often, only the original software can properly parse the internal tables and export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your VPDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The VPDB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our VPDB converter.
