About UWF files

A .UWF file is primarily an UltraTracker Wave File, a legacy audio sample container used in the 1990s by the MS-DOS music tracking program UltraTracker. During the golden age of the demoscene, musicians used trackers to sequence module files (like ULT), relying on .UWF files to store the individual instrument waveforms, drum hits, and loopable samples that the software would pitch-shift and trigger during playback.

Today, the .UWF format is highly problematic. It is a closed, proprietary, and completely obsolete format. Because it lacks modern, standardized audio headers, contemporary media players, DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations), and operating systems simply cannot recognize or play the files. They require a $0 but practically non-existent MS-DOS environment to run the original software. Users sitting on archives of classic tracker samples face a frustrating barrier when trying to reuse those sounds in modern music production.

The best solution is to convert .UWF files to universal audio formats like WAV (for lossless sample preservation), FLAC, or MP3. However, standard online converters fail to process them because they rely on standard FFMPEG codecs that do not support obscure 1990s tracker data structures.

*(Note: In enterprise environments, the .UWF extension is alternatively used by the Infor Lawson Upload Wizard as a configuration file to map Excel data to a database.)*

Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our analyzer can inspect the binary structure, extract raw PCM audio data, or reveal enterprise XML mappings, allowing you to bridge the gap between legacy files and modern workflows.
