About ULT files
The .ULT file extension has two distinct technical uses. Most commonly, it is a sliced 3D model file created by Ultimaker Cura. This file stores the precise toolpath and machine instructions required by a 3D printer to construct an object layer by layer. Internally, modern 3D .ULT files are standard ZIP archives containing G-code and thumbnail images. A secondary, much rarer use is the Ultra Tracker Module format, an audio tracker file created by Gravis in the 1990s to store musical instrument samples and sequence data for DOS-era software. Users typically need to convert .ULT 3D files to extract the underlying G-code for inspection or use on different printers. However, this format presents major conversion challenges. Once a 3D model is sliced into printer-specific instructions, it loses its original mathematical geometry. You cannot easily convert it back into an editable .STL or .OBJ file. The data is locked into specific hardware movements. Audio .ULT files face a different problem: they are a dead format that modern media players ignore. Extraction to .GCODE or .ZIP is the best target for 3D files, while audio files should be converted to .WAV or .MP3. Standard online converters fail to process .ULT files because they lack support for proprietary slicing archives and obsolete tracker audio. This file format is difficult to open or convert because it relies on specific hardware configurations or legacy software. Drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our analysis engine will inspect the internal structure. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP archive or embedded audio format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ULT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ULT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ULT converter.
