Convert TSM to another file type
To convert TSM configuration files to another format, you need InfluxDB or other Database software.
Convert a file to TSM
To convert other file formats to the "Time-Series Database File" file type, you need software like InfluxDB or a similar tool.
About TSM files
The .TSM file format is primarily used as a Time-Series Database file by InfluxDB. It acts as the core storage layer, holding massive amounts of timestamped metric data. Alternatively, .TSM files function as TwinCAT System Manager configuration files created by Beckhoff Automation, storing automation hardware setups using the Microsoft Compound file structure. Other uses include TINA Spice Macro models for circuit simulation in TINA-TI, and digital tachograph archives from TachoStudio.
Users frequently need to convert .TSM files because they are highly application-specific and locked into proprietary ecosystems. InfluxDB .TSM files are compressed binary data chunks that cannot be queried or read without running a dedicated database server. TwinCAT configurations restrict users to the Beckhoff ecosystem, making version control or external auditing difficult.
To make the data usable, InfluxDB .TSM files should be exported to CSV or JSON for analysis. TwinCAT configurations are best converted to XML for readable documentation.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because standard converters lack the database engines or specific simulation libraries required to parse the binary data. It is a closed, proprietary format. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like the ZIP structure used in TachoStudio archives or the Microsoft Compound structure in TwinCAT - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your TSM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert TSM file to INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, ENV, PROPERTIES or RC, you can use InfluxDB or similar software from the "Time-Series Database Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to TSM, try InfluxDB or another comparable tool in the "Time-Series Database Storage" category.
The TSM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our TSM converter.
