The .tpu file extension primarily identifies a Turbo Pascal Compiled Unit created by Borland for its legacy MS-DOS development environments. These files contain pre-compiled binary code, including procedures, functions, and variables, which a developer can link into a final executable without needing to recompile the original source code every time. Alternatively, the .tpu format is used by Tennyson Maxwell's Teleport Pro as a URL list file, or as a plugin format for the Total Commander file manager.
Converting a .TPU file is inherently difficult. Turbo Pascal units are compiled binaries, meaning they are proprietary and stripped of human-readable text, formatting, and comments found in the original PAS source code. Users often want to convert them back to source code, but decompiling is rarely perfect and heavily relies on legacy 16-bit tools running under emulation. Likewise, Teleport Pro and Total Commander plugin files are closed, application-specific data structures.
Because these are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters fail to process them. You cannot simply save a compiled binary as a standard text document.
