A .t20 file is a proprietary data container used to store a 2020 Tax Return File. These files are generated by professional and consumer tax preparation software, most notably Intuit TurboTax, Drake Tax, and H&R Block. They hold financial data, personal information, and tax forms necessary to file a 2020 tax return.
The main disadvantage of the .t20 format is that it is heavily locked down. It is explicitly tied to the 2020 version of the software that created it. You cannot open a .t20 file natively in a web browser, a word processor, or even the 2021 version of the same tax software without using a specific import tool. Furthermore, these files contain highly sensitive personal data. Users usually need to convert these files into a standard PDF for long-term archiving, secure sharing with accountants, or printing.
Converting a .t20 file directly to another format is extremely difficult. Because the format is closed and proprietary, standard online converters fail to parse the structured database inside.
