About STMB files
The .STMB file format is a proprietary data container used to store sound patch presets, known as timbres, for the digital synthesizer instruments developed by Synclavier Digital. Originally an iconic hardware synthesizer from the late 1970s and 1980s, modern software emulations like Synclavier Go! and Arturia Synclavier V use these files to recall exact FM (Frequency Modulation) and additive synthesis parameters. It does not contain actual recorded audio; instead, it stores the mathematical instructions required by the synthesizer engine to generate a specific sound. The primary disadvantage of the .STMB format is its highly specific, closed ecosystem. It is proprietary and completely useless without the matching Synclavier synthesizer software. You cannot open it in a standard digital audio workstation (DAW) or media player, and it cannot be natively uploaded to web browsers. Because it contains synthesis data rather than PCM audio, standard audio converters will fail to process it. If you need to share the sound of an .STMB file, the best target formats are standard audio files like WAV, FLAC, or MP3. However, this requires bouncing or rendering the sound directly inside a compatible DAW hosting the Synclavier plugin. True file-to-file conversion from .STMB to another synth patch format is practically impossible due to differing synthesizer architectures. Because this is a closed, proprietary format, standard online converters fail to process it. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects supported underlying text or XML data embedded inside the patch, viewing or metadata extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your STMB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
FAQ
If you want to convert STMB file to TMP, TEMP, CACHE, LOG, BAK, OLD, NEW, PART, DOWNLOAD, CRDOWNLOAD, LOCK or PID, you can use Synclavier V or similar software from the "Synthesizer Preset Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DEVICE, CACHE, SOCK, SYMLINK, PID, MOUNT, FIFO, LOG, PIPE, TMP, JUNCTION or TEMP files to STMB, try Synclavier V or another comparable tool in the "Synthesizer Preset Storage" category.
The STMB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STMB converter.
