About SAD files

The .SAD extension represents multiple fragmented, proprietary formats. Most commonly, it acts as an audio data container for Nintendo DS games (like Professor Layton) and PC titles like Black & White by Lionhead Studios. It is also utilized as an encrypted game archive in MapleStory, and as a logistics data file for customs declarations in the UNCTAD ASYCUDA system or WinSAD-EU software.

The main disadvantage of .SAD files is their highly restrictive nature. Game audio variants lack standard multimedia headers, meaning popular media players like VLC or Windows Media Player cannot play them. The customs declaration variants are tightly coupled to specific database architectures and cannot be read natively by text editors. Furthermore, Nexon's MapleStory archives are heavily encrypted to prevent cheating.

When possible, audio data should be extracted to WAV or MP3 for standard playback. Customs records should be exported to XML or CSV for proper auditing. However, this file format is difficult to open or convert directly. Standard online converters usually fail because only the original software, or dedicated community modding tools, can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your SAD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted VH, VGZ and WAV files.
