Convert a file to RZX
To convert other file formats to the "Emulator Recording File" file type, you need software like Fuse or a similar tool.
About RZX files
The .RZX file format is primarily a ZX Spectrum input recording. Used by popular emulators like Fuse, it records exact keystrokes and game sessions for later playback.
However, .RZX files have major disadvantages. They are highly specialized and do not contain actual video data. Instead, they store a compressed snapshot of the emulator's starting state and a stream of keyboard inputs. This means you cannot open an .RZX file in standard media players or upload it directly to YouTube. You are locked into using a compatible ZX Spectrum emulator to view the gameplay.
Users often want to convert .RZX to standard video formats like MP4, AVI, or WEBM. Because this is a proprietary, input-based format rather than a video stream, standard online converters fail to process it. Direct conversion is impossible. To convert the playback to video, you must play the .RZX file in an emulator and record the screen using third-party software like OBS Studio.
Alternatively, a tiny fraction of .RZX files are File Crypt Encrypted Files created by Red Zion. These are heavily encrypted and useless without the original decryption key. Just drag and drop your file into convert.guru to see what it is and convert it if supported. Our tool can inspect the internal data to identify the exact type of .RZX file you have and help you understand your best options.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RZX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
