About RPE files

The .rpe file is an OPC Router Configuration 4 Project file developed by inray Industries. It stores critical network routing rules that connect shop-floor PLCs and industrial machines with top-floor enterprise IT systems like SAP, SQL databases, and MQTT brokers. This format presents significant practical challenges. It is a strictly proprietary, closed format that requires an expensive industrial software license to access. Opening it in a standard text editor is highly discouraged as it will corrupt the binary structure if saved. Furthermore, standard online converters fail to process it because the industrial networking settings are undocumented and highly complex. Users typically need to convert this file into XML, JSON, or CSV to document network architecture, audit setups, or migrate connection rules. Exporting a visual layout to PDF is also highly requested for project handovers. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert natively, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. We can inspect the file, bypass the proprietary wrappers, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded XML format, viewing or data extraction may still be possible.
