About ROUT files
A .ROUT file primarily functions as a script output log generated by the R statistical programming language. When developers run scripts in batch mode (often via the R CMD BATCH command), the system diverts console output, errors, and warnings into this file.
As plain text logs, .ROUT files are notoriously messy. They mix command execution history, error codes, and raw tabular results in a single unstructured document. This makes it impossible to directly import the statistical results into a spreadsheet program like Microsoft Excel without manually cleaning the text. Furthermore, sharing a raw .ROUT file with non-technical stakeholders is impractical because it lacks formatting and looks intimidating. For sharing or archiving, convert to PDF. For further data manipulation, convert or parse the file into a structured CSV.
Occasionally, the .ROUT extension is used for Gerber PCB routing files, which dictate the physical routing paths for printed circuit boards in software like Autodesk Eagle. These are proprietary CAD/CAM manufacturing files that cannot be opened natively by any standard operating system or web browser, making collaboration difficult. For client review and printing, you must convert these PCB routing files to PDF or DXF.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ROUT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The ROUT Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ROUT converter.
