About RMM files
An .RMM file is a RealMedia Metafile historically used by RealPlayer to locate and stream audio or video over the internet. Developed by RealNetworks, it functions almost identically to the more common RAM extension. The file is simply a plain text document containing a URL (often starting with pnm://, rtsp://, or http://) that points to the actual media stream, usually a RM or RA file.
The main disadvantage of the .RMM format is that it is entirely obsolete and confusing for users. Because it relies on outdated proprietary streaming protocols, modern software like VLC media player cannot stream from it natively. Furthermore, users often mistake the .RMM file for the video itself, only to discover it is a 1-kilobyte text file containing no media data.
You cannot directly convert an .RMM file to a video format because it holds no video. To get a usable file, you must first extract the stream URL, download the source media using a stream-capture tool, and then convert that media. For modern playback, convert the downloaded media to MP4. For audio extraction, convert to MP3. Drop your file here to view and convert it securely right in your browser - our tool will read the text inside so you can find the actual media link.

The RMM Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RMM converter.
