.RGP files are primarily used as project and data storage formats for highly specialized industrial equipment and niche software. The most common types include Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scans from Screening Eagle Technologies (Proceq GPR Live), resistance drill measurements from IML-RESI, and route animation projects from Route Generator.
The main disadvantage of the .RGP format is extreme fragmentation and vendor lock-in. You cannot natively open a Proceq GPR scan or an IML-RESI drill file in standard office software or web browsers. They require expensive, proprietary software licenses or dedicated hardware ecosystems to interpret the raw sensor data. Similarly, a Route Generator project is useless on its own - it only contains coordinates and settings, not the actual animation.
Directly converting these files is challenging. For Route Generator, the ultimate goal is exporting to MP4 or AVI from within the native application. For industrial data, you typically need to export to CSV or PDF using the official workspace tools like PD-Win. Standard online converters fail because they lack the highly specific decoders for these niche formats.
