About RCREC files

The .rcrec file is a LogMeIn Remote Control Session Recording. It contains video playback and metadata captured during a remote desktop session using LogMeIn software. Administrators and IT support teams use this format to audit remote sessions or keep records of technical interventions.

This format has significant disadvantages. It is heavily restricted and proprietary. Standard media players like VLC Media Player or Windows Media Player cannot play .rcrec files. Sharing these files with clients or colleagues is difficult because it forces the recipient to install specific LogMeIn viewing software. Furthermore, the format does not store standard video frames; it stores screen update data optimized for low-bandwidth connections.

Users typically want to convert .rcrec to standard video formats like MP4 or AVI for universal playback. However, this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert online. Because it uses proprietary, closed encoding, standard online video converters fail to process it. Often, only the original LogMeIn software can properly read or export the data.

Despite these limits, convert.guru can help. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view internal metadata, and inspect the file structure. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
