About QAR files

The .QAR file format is primarily used as a Quartus Prime Project Archive. Intel Quartus Prime is an electronic design automation (EDA) software suite used to program field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). A .QAR file bundles an entire hardware design project into a single compressed package, containing VHDL or Verilog source codes, block diagrams, and routing settings. A secondary use for the .QAR extension is as a QlikView Extension file. QlikView is a data analytics and business intelligence platform, and these files package custom visualization plugins. The main disadvantage of .QAR files is their deeply proprietary nature. They are strictly bound to their respective enterprise ecosystems. Quartus archives are heavily dependent on specific software versions, and the software itself is a massive multi-gigabyte installation. QlikView extensions require a paid enterprise environment to install and execute. Because .QAR files are highly specialized and tightly locked into proprietary software logic, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the structured hardware data. Our system can inspect the .QAR file to reveal its internal text or embedded components.
