The .q09 file extension stores user tax data generated by QuickTax 2009, a legacy tax preparation software developed by Intuit Canada. It holds financial records, personal details, and completed tax forms for the 2009 Canadian tax year. You normally open it using the original QuickTax 2009 software, a product line later rebranded as TurboTax. This format is a highly restrictive, closed ecosystem. It is proprietary, obsolete, and impossible to open natively with modern tax software. Furthermore, installing a 2009 program on a modern operating system usually fails, effectively locking your legacy financial data away.
