Extract text from Print objects or messages (PMO)
To convert PMO files to another format, you need Pegasus Mail or other Data software.
To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Data File" file type, you need software like Pegasus Mail or a similar tool.
The .PMO file extension is used for two completely different data types: Broderbund Print Meta Object files and Pegasus Saved Message files. Broderbund uses it to store proprietary graphics, layout objects, or clipart for older desktop publishing software. Alternatively, David Harris's Pegasus Mail uses .PMO to store locally saved email messages and their headers.
For layout objects, you generally need legacy versions of The Print Shop or PrintMaster by Broderbund. For emails, Pegasus Mail is required to properly read the saved offline mail structure.
Both formats are highly restrictive. Broderbund .PMO files are essentially locked into obsolete 1990s and 2000s desktop publishing ecosystems. They are proprietary, unsupported by modern image viewers, and cannot be imported into modern design tools like Adobe Illustrator. Pegasus .PMO files are isolated email archives that cannot be easily migrated to modern email clients like Microsoft Outlook or Gmail.
For Broderbund files, converting to JPG, PNG, or PDF is ideal to preserve the visual clipart data, though vector editability is usually lost. For Pegasus Mail files, converting to TXT, EML, or PDF allows the text and headers to be read universally.
This file format is difficult to open or convert because both variations are closed, proprietary systems. Often, only the original legacy software can properly read or export the data. Standard online converters fail to process them because they lack the specific decoding libraries. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - like plain text in an email or a standard bitmap inside an object - viewing or conversion may still be possible.
