About PMAP files
The .PMAP file extension primarily belongs to Pocket Mindmap, a discontinued mobile productivity application by JKRB Software. These files store structured brainstorming data, including nodes, text branches, and user notes. Alternatively, .PMAP files are used as Pipeline Mapping Context files within the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Calibration References Data System, as localization property maps in the KDE desktop environment, or as phase maps in Ansys OpticStudio.
The biggest problem with .PMAP files is that they rely on obsolete or highly niche software. If you have a Pocket Mindmap file, it requires a dead Windows Mobile application to open. Standard modern mind mapping tools like XMind or FreeMind cannot read this proprietary format. You will simply get an error if you try to import it. Similarly, JWST data mapping files require specific Python environments to read their rules. This makes the format extremely frustrating for everyday users who just want to access their old data.
Fortunately, most .PMAP files store their internal data as standard XML or plain text. You will lose the visual layout and graphics of the original mind map, but the core text is still there. If our engine detects a standard text or XML format underneath, you can view the text or convert the raw data into universal formats like TXT, JSON, or XML.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PMAP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PMAP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PMAP converter.
