About PDFENX files
A .pdfenx file is a secure document format. Organizations use it to transmit highly sensitive information across networks. It is essentially a standard PDF file that is encrypted by Entrust Entelligence Security software.
Users typically open these files using Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader, but only if the specific Entrust Entelligence Security Provider plug-in is installed and configured with the correct user identity.
The main disadvantage of the .pdfenx format is vendor lock-in and severe accessibility limits. Standard web browsers, mobile phones, and generic PDF readers cannot open it. It requires proprietary software and valid digital credentials (passwords or certificates) to view. Users often need to convert it back to a standard PDF to archive the data, share it with external clients, or read it on unsupported devices.
The best target format is a standard PDF or DOCX. Converting to these formats restores normal file access, but removes the enterprise-grade encryption.
Because it is an encrypted, closed format, it is extremely difficult to open or convert. Standard online converters fail because they lack your private decryption keys. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. However, just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible using convert.guru. We can inspect the file structure and show unencrypted metadata. If our analysis detects a supported underlying format that is not fully locked, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PDFENX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted 14, 54 and 9 files.

The PDFENX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PDFENX converter.
