About PBA files
The .PBA extension is primarily associated with legacy industrial automation and engineering workflows, creating significant compatibility friction for modern users. The most common variation (approx. 40%) is a project file created by PanelBuilder32, a now-obsolete software by Rockwell Automation used to design interfaces for PanelView graphic terminals. These files contain the logic, screen designs, and alarm configurations for Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). The main problem with these files is their strict dependency on legacy 32-bit architecture; running PanelBuilder32 on Windows 10 or 11 is notoriously difficult, often requiring virtual machines. Users typically need to convert these to PDF for documentation purposes or migrate them to FactoryTalk View formats (High or Low) to update their hardware.
Alternatively, a .PBA file may be a Playback Animation generated by PTC Creo (formerly Pro/ENGINEER). Unlike standard video files (MP4, AVI), these are proprietary vector-based recordings of 3D assembly movements or structural analyses. They cannot be opened in standard media players like VLC. To share these animations with clients or stakeholders who do not possess a costly CAD license, you must convert them to standard raster video formats. Less frequently, .PBA files appear as archives for CyberLink PowerBackup or system files for PocketBook e-readers, both of which are proprietary buckets that lock data inside specific ecosystems.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PBA file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PBH, PBTPL and SNMM files.
The PBA Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PBA converter.
