About PAW files
The .PAW file extension is uniquely fragmented, primarily serving as a Paw Document for macOS API development, a Pawaa File for enterprise data security, or a legacy Personal Ancestry Writer II genealogy database. Modern developers encounter it via Paw (now RapidAPI Mac), a popular HTTP client. Security professionals might see it from Pawaa Software's SecurelyShare, while family historians associate it with Howard H. Metcalfe's legacy Mac genealogy tool. Because it serves three vastly different ecosystems, .PAW files are notoriously frustrating to handle. Paw documents are proprietary to the Apple ecosystem, isolating Windows developers who use Postman. Pawaa files are wrapped in intense DRM encryption that forces users into a closed authentication system. Legacy genealogy files risk data rot as PowerPC-era Mac software becomes obsolete. Ideally, Paw API documents should be exported to JSON or YAML. Genealogy files must be migrated to standard GED formats. Standard online converters completely fail here because they cannot distinguish between encrypted DRM, API databases, and ancestral trees. Our analysis engine bypasses the extension, reads the internal file signature, and identifies the exact format. If the file is unencrypted, viewing or conversion to modern standards may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PAW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PAW file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use Paw or similar software from the "API Definitions or Encrypted Data" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to PAW, try Paw or another comparable tool in the "API Definitions or Encrypted Data" category.
The PAW Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PAW converter.
