About OW files

The .OW file extension primarily acts as an Open Watcom Object file or an Owl language object file. These are developer files containing compiled machine code and linking symbols, generated by the Open Watcom compiler or older versions of Free Pascal. Object files are not meant to be read by humans; they are intermediate binary files passed to a software linker to build final executables. The main disadvantage of .OW files is that they are highly specialized, architecture-specific binaries. Without the original source code or the exact compiler toolchain, editing them is nearly impossible. Users usually want to link these files into executable EXE or library DLL files, or decompile them into ASM (Assembly) text files for reverse engineering. Converting .OW files directly into standard documents or images is impossible because they contain raw machine instructions rather than visual data. This is a specialized binary format. Standard online converters fail to process it because converting it requires a specific linker to resolve memory addresses and library dependencies.

Convert.Guru analyzes your OW file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PAS, PP and PPU files.

The OW Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OW converter.
