About OGGSTR files
An .OGGSTR file is an imported audio asset used exclusively by the Godot Engine, a popular open-source game development platform. When a developer imports a standard OGG (Ogg Vorbis) audio file into a Godot project, the engine automatically converts it into an .OGGSTR (Ogg Stream) file. This internal format contains the raw compressed audio data alongside Godot-specific metadata, such as loop points, BPM, and stream synchronization flags required for optimized in-game playback.
Because this is a closed, engine-specific format, standard media players like VLC or audio editors like Audacity cannot read it natively. The proprietary metadata headers break standard Ogg decoders. This creates a significant disadvantage for users attempting to extract soundtracks, recover lost project files, or modify game audio, as the file behaves like a proprietary binary rather than standard audio. Merely renaming the extension to OGG will not work.
To restore the audio, the Godot metadata must be stripped away to expose the underlying Ogg Vorbis stream. Once extracted, the file can be converted to standard target formats like MP3 or WAV for universal playback. Since this file format is difficult to open or convert outside of Godot's ecosystem, standard online converters often fail.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OGGSTR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The OGGSTR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OGGSTR converter.
