About NP4 files

The .np4 file is a proprietary project schedule document created by NetPoint, a planning and scheduling application developed by PMA Technologies. It stores timelines, tasks, resource allocations, and dependencies for complex project management. The primary disadvantage of the .np4 format is its strict vendor lock-in. It is a closed, proprietary format that requires a paid NetPoint license to open. You cannot view it in web browsers, standard text editors, or even popular tools like Microsoft Project natively. To share these schedules with external stakeholders, users typically need to convert .np4 files to accessible formats like PDF for visual sharing, CSV for data analysis, or XER and MPP for interoperability with other project management software. Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard online tools usually fail. Often, only the original NetPoint software can properly read or export the schedule data.
