About NETSPM files

The .netspm file is a proprietary NetSpot Map File created by NetSpot, a professional Wi-Fi analysis and site survey tool. These files store floor plans, scale measurements, and collected wireless data such as signal strength, noise levels, and access point locations. The main disadvantage of the .netspm format is that it is highly proprietary and closed. It requires the NetSpot application to open, which often involves premium licensing to access advanced features. You cannot view these files natively in web browsers, image viewers, or standard document editors. Users usually need to convert .netspm files into universal formats to share Wi-Fi reports with clients or IT teams. The best conversion targets are .PDF for full reports or .PNG and .JPG for standalone heatmap images. However, exporting to these formats flattens the data, meaning you lose the ability to interact with the map and filter specific access points. Because this format relies on complex, app-specific data structures combining raster graphics with spatial metrics, standard online converters fail to process it. Only the original software can properly render the heatmaps.
