About MUSICDB files

A .MUSICDB file is a proprietary media library database file. It is used primarily by Apple Music and legacy Sony Walkman software like Media Go to store library metadata. This includes track names, artist information, play counts, ratings, playlist structures, and file path pointers. Users often attempt to convert a .MUSICDB file because they want to migrate their playlists to another service or mistakenly believe the file contains actual audio tracks. The primary disadvantage of this format is that it is completely proprietary. It locks your library metadata into a single software ecosystem. It requires the original application to open, is not supported by web browsers, and becomes entirely useless if the linked physical audio files are moved or deleted from the drive. If you need to migrate your data, the best target formats are .CSV or .XML. Exporting to these formats allows you to read your playlist data in standard spreadsheet software or import it into other media managers. You cannot convert a .MUSICDB file to .MP3 or .FLAC because the file contains zero actual audio data. Because this is a closed, proprietary database format, standard online converters almost always fail to process it. Usually, only the original media software can properly read or export the database schema. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format like SQLite, viewing the raw text or extracting internal content may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MUSICDB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MUSICDB Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database.
