About MSB files
The .MSB file extension primarily serves two distinct communities with very different needs: musicians and gamers.
First, it is the proprietary Backup File for MobileSheets, the leading sheet music reader for Android and Windows. These files contain your entire library's database, including annotations, setlists, and often the source PDF or MP3 files themselves. Users typically encounter this file when moving to a new tablet or restoring a library. The friction here is that .MSB files are not standard archives you can just double-click to view; they must be imported back into the MobileSheets app to access the sheet music inside. You cannot simply "convert" an MSB to PDF online; you must restore it and then use the app's "Export" feature.
Second, in the gaming world, .MSB stands for Map Studio Binary. It is a critical game asset format used by FromSoftware titles (like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring) and engines associated with Lab Zero Games (Skullgirls). These binary files define the layout of a game level - determining where enemies, items, and terrain models are placed. They are not images or 3D models themselves, but rather the instructions for the game engine on how to assemble the scene. Modders use specialized tools like DSMapStudio to edit these files, as standard 3D software like Blender cannot open them directly without plugins.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MSB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted MAT, MLO, NIF and MS3D files.
The MSB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MSB converter.
