Convert a file to MMPP
To convert other file formats to the "3D Texture Paint Project" file type, you need software like Material Maker or a similar tool.
About MMPP files
The .MMPP file extension is a Material Maker Paint Project. It is used by 3D artists and game developers to texture 3D models using procedural node-based brushes. Created by Material Maker, a free open-source authoring tool by Rodz Labs, these files are essential for generating assets for engines like Godot, Unity, and Unreal Engine.
The major disadvantage of the .MMPP format is that it is a proprietary, application-specific workspace, not a standalone 3D model or image file. The file itself does not contain any 3D geometry or pixel data. Instead, it is a plain text JSON file that strictly saves the node graph math and a hardcoded file path linking to an external OBJ, GLB, or FBX mesh. If you move or delete the source 3D model on your hard drive, the project will instantly break and fail to load correctly.
Because the painting process is procedural, standard image viewers and generic 3D software cannot open or convert an .MMPP file. Users typically need to convert these projects into standard 2D PBR texture maps, such as PNG, JPG, or EXR files (Albedo, Normal, Roughness, Metallic).
Standard online converters will always fail to process .MMPP files because rendering the node graph requires the exact Material Maker engine to calculate the procedural textures. If our analysis detects the file paths of the missing 3D objects or specific texture nodes, you can read the text output to troubleshoot broken links and manually recover your project.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MMPP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MMPP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MMPP converter.
