The .mcserver file is a proprietary game server configuration file created by the MacMan wrapper for macOS. It acts as a launcher profile for a Minecraft multiplayer server, storing essential startup parameters like allocated RAM, server port, world seed, and player limits without forcing the user to rely on terminal commands.
Traditionally, these files are opened and managed exclusively using the MacMan Minecraft Server application on macOS. While it provided a graphical interface for server management, the software is highly specific to the Mac ecosystem.
Users typically need to convert or extract data from .mcserver files when migrating their server hosting from a local Mac to a dedicated Linux or Windows VPS. The core disadvantage of this format is its lack of portability.
