An .LTG file is a proprietary custom game data format used exclusively by the retro puzzle game LaserTank. It contains the 2D visual assets - such as tanks, lasers, mirrors, and terrain tiles - required to render the game's graphical interface. The primary software used to interact with these files is the game engine itself, originally associated with JEK Software.
The .LTG format is highly proprietary and extremely outdated. You cannot open it with standard image viewers, web browsers, or modern editing software like Adobe Photoshop. The files contain raw, uncompressed bitmap data hardcoded for a specific game engine. This makes editing custom tilesets frustrating for modern modders, as you are locked into the game's native ecosystem and require specialized legacy tools to make changes.
To modify or view the sprites outside the game, you need to extract the .LTG data into standard raster formats like PNG or BMP. Converting to PNG is the best choice because it preserves the pixel-perfect quality required for retro 2D graphics without introducing compression artifacts.
