About LQT files

The .LQT file is an obsolete digital audio format created by Liquid Digital Media in the late 1990s. It was primarily used to distribute commercial music tracks securely over the internet. The format includes robust Digital Rights Management (DRM) designed to prevent unauthorized copying, burning, or sharing of the audio files.

Historically, users opened these files using Liquid Player, a proprietary media player. You need to convert .LQT files because they are effectively dead; modern operating systems, smartphones, and standard media players like VLC or iTunes cannot read them. The built-in DRM requires obsolete authentication servers that no longer exist, locking users out of the music they legitimately purchased.

The most practical target formats for your audio are MP3, WAV, or FLAC. Converting to these universally supported formats ensures you will not lose access to the audio again. However, converting an .LQT file is notoriously difficult. Because this is a closed, proprietary format heavily encrypted with legacy DRM, standard online converters will fail to process it.

Often, only the original legacy software running on an older operating system can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects an underlying, unprotected audio stream, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your LQT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted LA1, LAV and LAVS files.
