A .LHR file is a personal finance database created by Quicken Financial Life for Mac. It stores sensitive user data including bank transactions, budgets, account balances, and financial history. Developed by Intuit, this format relies entirely on legacy and modern iterations of the Mac version of Quicken to parse the financial ledgers.
The .LHR format presents severe limitations because it is strictly proprietary and closed. It locks your personal financial data inside a single application ecosystem. You cannot open .LHR files in web browsers, standard text editors, or spreadsheet software. If your Quicken subscription expires, or if you migrate to a different operating system, your raw financial data becomes entirely inaccessible.
To regain control of the data, users typically need to convert .LHR files to universal formats like CSV, QIF, or QFX. This allows migration to alternative accounting tools or Microsoft Excel. However, standard online converters fail to process .LHR files because the internal binary structure is proprietary and undocumented.
