About KFP2 files

A .KFP2 file is a specialized media library database created by KeyFlow Pro 2, an advanced digital asset manager used alongside Apple's Final Cut Pro X. It stores project metadata, keywords, favorites, transcript annotations, and file path references for complex video editing workflows.

Users manage and open these files exclusively on macOS using KeyFlow Pro 2. The software acts as a central hub, allowing production teams to index media across multiple storage drives without duplicating heavy video files.

However, the .KFP2 format presents strict limitations in the real world. It is a closed, proprietary database that cannot be opened natively on Windows or Linux. Because it acts as a pointer to external media rather than a self-contained document, sharing a .KFP2 file with a client or a non-Mac user is generally useless - they will be locked out of the project data and require a paid software license just to view the library structure.

You cannot convert a .KFP2 database directly into a playable video file like an MP4 or MOV. The best and most realistic target formats are standard XML or CSV. Exporting from the original software to XML preserves the sequence and marker metadata for other non-Apple editors, while exporting to CSV gives you a flat spreadsheet of tags and annotations but completely loses the timeline structure.

This makes the .KFP2 file exceptionally difficult to open or convert outside its native macOS ecosystem. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KFP2 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
