About KEXIC files

The .kexic file is a database connection shortcut created by Kexi, an open-source visual database creator that is part of the Calligra Suite. Instead of storing actual database tables or user records, this file acts as a configuration profile. It stores connection parameters like server addresses, usernames, and driver details needed to bridge the software to external databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server. The main disadvantage of the .kexic format is its highly specific use case. It is practically useless without the original Kexi software installed on your machine. If a colleague sends you a .kexic file hoping to share data, they have made a mistake. They shared the server address and routing rules instead of the actual data tables. Furthermore, it is a proprietary localized format that web browsers and standard operating systems do not natively recognize by its extension, causing instant confusion when shared. If you need to extract the connection string, your best conversion targets are plain text formats like TXT or XML. Because the file simply stores configuration parameters in text, converting it allows you to read the server details without downloading heavy software. This file format is notoriously difficult to convert into standard data formats (like CSV or SQL) because it contains zero data. Standard online converters fail to process it because they look for tables and rows that do not exist. If our analysis detects the supported underlying text or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible, allowing you to instantly retrieve the lost server addresses and parameters.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KEXIC file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The KEXIC Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KEXIC converter.
