Convert KEXI to another file type
To convert KEXI databases to another format, you need Kexi or other Database software.
Convert a file to KEXI
To convert other file formats to the "Kexi Database File" file type, you need software like Kexi or a similar tool.
About KEXI files
A .kexi file is a database file created by Kexi, an open-source visual database application builder that is part of the Calligra Suite. It stores tables, queries, forms, and reports in a single file. You can open and edit these files natively using the Kexi software.
The .kexi format is highly specific to the Kexi software ecosystem. Users often run into problems because Kexi is not widely installed on mainstream operating systems like Windows or macOS compared to commercial alternatives like Microsoft Access. Sharing a .kexi file with someone who does not use Linux or the Calligra suite is frustrating, as standard office programs cannot read it.
The best approach is to convert the tables inside the .kexi file to standard CSV formats for spreadsheets, or SQL dumps for migrating the data to MySQL or PostgreSQL. Keep in mind that while raw table data converts easily, visual forms, macros, and UI reports are strictly proprietary to Kexi and will be permanently lost outside the application.
Database formats are notoriously difficult to open or convert because they bundle relational data and UI elements together. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the complete application data. However, .kexi files are fundamentally SQLite databases under the hood. Standard online converters usually fail to process them simply because they do not recognize the custom extension. If our analysis detects the supported underlying SQLite format, viewing the internal tables or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your KEXI file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert KEXI file to DB, SQLITE, SQLITE3, MDB, ACCDB, DBF, ODB, FDB, GDB, MYD, FRM or SQL, you can use Kexi or similar software from the "Relational Database Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert NDF, SQLITE3, BAK, RDB, SQL, DB4, MDF, MDB, LDF, DB, DB3 or SQLITE files to KEXI, try Kexi or another comparable tool in the "Relational Database Storage" category.
The KEXI Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our KEXI converter.
