About KCT files

The .KCT file is a Keyman Developer Customization Source file. Developers use it to configure branding, custom interfaces, and installer settings for specialized keyboard layouts. The primary software used to open and edit these files is Keyman Developer, an open-source tool currently maintained by SIL International (formerly Tavultesoft). For the average user, the .KCT format is completely unusable. It is a proprietary project file that requires a dedicated developer environment. You cannot install a .KCT file on your phone or computer to start typing in a new language. The file must first be compiled into a deployable package. If you need to review the code or migrate the configuration, you should convert or export the .KCT data to standard text formats like TXT, XML, or JSON. Converting to plain text makes the data readable across any platform, but you will lose the ability to compile the keyboard directly without rebuilding the project. Standard online converters fail to process .KCT files because they lack the proprietary Keyman compiler logic required to read the project structure. Only the original software can properly export the working data. If our analysis detects a supported underlying text format, viewing or text extraction is still easily possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your KCT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted KSG, KAN and KCO files.
