The .JG4 file extension is exclusively associated with the BigJig jigsaw puzzle simulator, specifically version 4, developed by Lena Games. These files store the complete data for a digital jigsaw puzzle, including the base picture, the geometric cut patterns for the pieces, and associated game settings like background color and difficulty.
The main disadvantage of the .JG4 format is its highly proprietary nature. Because it is closed-source and specific to one game, you cannot open these files in standard image viewers like Windows Photos or modern web browsers. Users often face frustration when they want to simply view the beautiful underlying image but are forced to install the game to see it. This drives the need to extract or convert the file into standard raster image formats like JPG or PNG.
