An .itls file is an iTunes Live Stream URL file. It is used to point Apple media software to a live broadcasting server, typically for streaming internet radio or live events. Originally opened with iTunes, this format is now primarily handled by the Apple Music application on macOS and Windows.
The main disadvantage of an .itls file is its strict lock-in to the Apple ecosystem. It does not contain any actual audio or video data, but rather acts as a localized shortcut to a remote server. Because it is a proprietary shortcut format, non-Apple media players like VLC media player or standard web browsers will fail to open it directly. Users are often stuck with an unreadable file if they do not have Apple software installed.
