Convert IGE to another file type

To convert IGE raster files to another format, you need ERDAS IMAGINE or other GIS software.

Convert a file to IGE

To convert other file formats to the "ERDAS Raster Data" file type, you need software like ERDAS IMAGINE or a similar tool.

About IGE files

The .ige file is a secondary data storage file used by ERDAS IMAGINE to store extremely large geospatial raster datasets. It functions as a required extension to the standard img format. When an img file exceeds the 2GB file size limit imposed by 32-bit architecture, the software automatically creates an .ige file. This new file holds the raw pixel array, while the original img file is kept as a header containing the metadata, projection, and spatial referencing. The massive disadvantage of the .ige format is its dependency. It is entirely useless on its own. If you share an .ige file without the accompanying img file, the data cannot be read. Furthermore, these files easily exceed 4GB, making them impossible to share via email or standard web browsers. Standard online converters fail to process .ige files because they lack the ability to parse the multi-gigabyte pixel data and require the paired img header to decode the image matrix correctly. Converting the dataset to a single TIF (GeoTIFF) is the best solution for portability across different GIS platforms. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IGE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

FAQ

If you want to convert IGE file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use ERDAS IMAGINE or similar software from the "Large Geospatial Raster Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to IGE, try ERDAS IMAGINE or another comparable tool in the "Large Geospatial Raster Storage" category.

The IGE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IGE converter.
